International Academic Conference “The Potential of Ethnological Methods for Studying Cultural Diversity: Central European Contexts of Eurasian Perspectives”

It used to be thought that the era of globalization would lead to the unification of cultures. However, in practice, it turned into a polyphony of cultural values. European ethnologists from several countries gathered at an academic conference to discuss how and why this happens, while also raising the question of elaboration of tools for a joint theoretical discussion of polyphony and cultural diversity of European regions. Representatives from the Czech Republic, Belarus, and Ukraine met at the West Bohemian University in Pilsen to discuss these issues.
At the conference, the Middle-European ethnological network was created to further develop the cultural issues that the globalization era has set for science. The conference organizer, Professor Petr Lozovyuk, spoke about the creation of the Center for Central European and Eurasian Studies at the Department of Anthropology.
The objective of this Center consists in the coordination and cooperation of efforts of researchers from a number of countries in studying modern multiculturalism in historical retrospective. At the moment, ethnological methods of cognizing “a person in cultures and cultures in a person” are more relevant than ever. Peter described the potential and prospects of ethnography in contemporary realities.
