Conference “Disputed Territories on the Border of Europe”7 September 2018, Bucharest (Romania)

Both in the “body” of the European Union and at its periphery, there are dozens of territories that are subject of disputes about their belonging. These disputes periodically become subjects of manipulation by various political forces of the surrounding states.

It is precisely these “neighboring” states that influence public opinion in such discussions. At the interdisciplinary conference “Disputed Territories on the Border of Europe” that took place in Bucharest, scholars came together to discuss the fate of such territories in the political, legal, historical and geopolitical contexts.

The conference shifted the focus of the study of these debates to the anthropological character by looking at the “disputed lands” from the perspective of their inhabitants, their ideas and opinions. This approach allows us to analyze the immanent models and emancipate the subjectivity of the regions themselves.
